Kia Seltos : Kia India has done it again with the second-generation Seltos, a midsize SUV that’s not just an update but a bold statement in a market flooded with choices.
Launched early this year, it’s already turning heads and boosting sales, proving why it remains Kia’s flagship.
A Legacy Built on Bold Moves
Back in 2019, when Kia first rolled out the Seltos, no one expected a newcomer from Korea to disrupt the midsize SUV segment so dramatically.
It quickly became the brand’s bestseller, racking up over 600,000 units sold in India by January 2026, with nearly 160,000 exported too.
That milestone isn’t just numbers—it’s a testament to how the Seltos won over millennials craving style, tech, and value.
The first-gen model shook things up with its aggressive pricing and feature-packed variants, even bagging top honors like Car of the Year at the Autocar India Awards.
But as rivals like Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara piled on, sales dipped last year. Kia knew it was time for something bigger—literally.
Unveiling the Beast: Design That Demands Attention
The 2026 Seltos debuted globally in India on January 2, growing larger on the new K3 platform: 4,460mm long, 1,830mm wide, with an 80mm longer wheelbase at 2,690mm for more cabin room.

The front grille screams presence with jagged, vertical gun-metal accents and squarish LED headlamps that wrap around like lightning bolts.
Side profiles get sharper lines, flush door handles, and 18-inch geometric alloys, while the rear sports inverted L-shaped LEDs connected by a light bar—clean yet sporty.
It’s bolder than before, drawing from Kia’s Telluride vibes, though not everyone might love the quirkiness. Still, in the metal, it looks massive and premium, standing out in traffic.
Bookings kicked off December 11 for Rs 25,000, with deliveries by mid-January, and prices from Rs 10.99 lakh to 19.99 lakh ex-showroom—keenly positioned against Creta and Tata Sierra.

Inside the cockpit: Tech Heaven Meets Everyday Ease
Step inside, and the cabin feels like a leap forward, borrowing that massive panoramic glass setup from the Syros: a 12.3-inch touchscreen, matching digital cluster, and a 5-inch HVAC panel. Physical toggles for AC keep things intuitive—no fumbling with screens mid-drive.
Ambient lighting in 64 colors, Bose audio (though not the sharpest), ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and a powered driver’s seat with memory make it luxurious.

The chunky steering wheel has handy mode selectors, and fit-finish is spot-on with leatherette and textured plastics.
Rear space shines thanks to the stretched wheelbase—six-footers get ample legroom, though seatbase feels short for taller folks.
One gripe: no air purifier like before, and rear AC vents with sunshades handle heat well, but no cooled seats here. Boot swallows 447 liters easily, with a full-size spare underneath.
Power Plays: Engines That Deliver the Punch
Powertrains carry over smartly: 1.5-liter NA petrol (115hp) with MT/CVT, punchy 1.5 TGDi turbo-petrol (160hp/253Nm) with iMT/DCT, and efficient 1.5 diesel (116hp/250Nm) with MT/AT.
The turbo-petrol shines—smooth, rev-happy up to 6,200rpm, perfect for highways. Diesel’s refined but lacks urgency; gearbox can lag.
Real-world mileage? Expect 13-14kpl highway for turbo-petrol, 16-17 for diesel. Ride’s comfier now, soaking bumps without excess roll, and handling stays balanced—high-speed stability impresses. Brakes are progressive, steering weights up nicely in Sport mode.
Safety’s robust: six airbags standard, ESC, 360-camera, TPMS, and Level 2 ADAS (lane keep, adaptive cruise). No crash test ratings yet, but it’s loaded.

Sales Surge and Rival Rumble
January 2026 saw Kia sell 27,603 units total, up 10% YoY, with new Seltos grabbing 10,639—39% of that, reviving demand after a slow FY25. It outsold expectations in a segment buzzing with Maruti Victoris, Tata Curvv, and upcoming Renault Duster.
Kia eyes replacement buyers and upgraders from compacts. At these prices, it’s value-packed, though diesel needs more zing and some features lag rivals.
Kia Seltos : Why It Matters Now
Three months post-launch, the Seltos isn’t reinventing the wheel—it’s evolving it smarter, bigger, safer.
In India’s cutthroat midsize SUV wars, it’s positioned to reclaim the throne, blending Korean flair with practical punch.
